Mildred
E. Devine
NETWORK
honored Mildred E. Devine as Women of the Year at the June 21, 2000
luncheon. The July 2000 edition of NETWORK News
reported on the event:
" . . . This
year's recipient was Millie Devine, founder of NETWORK
and member ever since. Many of us know Millie for the generous and
wise support she has given over the years to not-for-profit organizations
throughout southeastern Connecticut in seeking grants. After retiring from
a successful career in banking, Millie went into business for herself. Devine
Planning helps clients with planned giving, estate planning and
grant application advisement. She
serves on numerous boards and is an active member of the American
Association of University Women.
Just twenty years ago, women
were not allowed into the prestigious Thames Club, a popular spot for
business lunches and meetings. Millie gathered a group of professional
businesswomen to fight this form of second-class citizenship and thus the
Southeastern Connecticut Women's NETWORK
was born. As time have changed, so has NETWORK
and we are enormously grateful to Millie for her courageous effort and her
continuing involvement with the organization she founded. . . ."
